Oh Hello!

I’m Marine – a passionate graphic designer, illustrator and sometimes photographer. I am based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and constantly inspired by the ocean, nature & adventures.

My goal is to help brands and individuals turn their business ideas into a visual reality with cool, clean & cheerful designs that are unique and will surely make an impact. And when a business looks amazing and is very sucessful, there’s no better feeling!

First, a quick overview about my design background

 

Over the past 7 years, I’ve worked in various creative roles in advertising agencies and in-house companies. I’ve worked for different clients throughout the travel, consumer and technology industries. Since June 2019, I took the leap and created my own business specialising in branding, design, and illustration.

My varied background in journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing and the travel industry taught me a lot about managing projects, quickly identifying trends, creating solutions, and focusing on delivering a successful outcome.

I am passionate about visual aesthetics and love to help businesses take off visually. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a company spread its wings and look incredible to the public. My attention to detail and love for harmonious colours will make your designs sparkle.

When I’m not working on a new design, you’ll find me surfing on my longboard somewhere around the Northern Beaches or planning my next escape in Australia or overseas. You can learn more about my personal story below!

Obviously, creativity is in my DNA being a graphic designer and photographer. Many think they aren’t creative but we all have it inside us. So let’s embrace being creative together.

This world could really use some more kindness, right? So let’s be respectful, kind with ourselves and to others.

Balance

There’s no Ying without Yang. For me, balance is ultra-important to deliver high-quality work that’s balanced and also having some time away from the computer!

Trust

I trust you with the brief, you trust me with my skills. Obvious right? If there’s no trust, there’s no magic happening!

However, once I got to high school years, my art got a little lost with life. I never gave up photography but design as a career didn’t feel like something that was “going to get me somewhere”. After completing a Bachelor of Information Communication and a Master of International Relations, I somehow made my way back into creative roles. From working in advertising agencies to marketing teams to now having my own business, I live and breathe creativity every single day with the added value of having learnt so much about businesses with my past experiences. Creative dream ticked!

So what’s my next dream? Well, I just finished building a Tiny House with my partner and it’s been incredible building our own walls. Next dream is also making our distillery business successful, check it out here: Hang 10 Distillery.

See, I’m a dreamer. I’ve had many dreams and somehow, with a little bit of luck and a lot of work, they happened to come true.

Born and raised in France, I visited Australia back in 2005 as a teen. I instantly fell in love with the country, the landscapes, the ocean. In my heart, I knew I’d go back one day. I moved to Sydney in 2014 and never looked back! Now I’m a true French-Aussie. The dream came true.

When I was 12, I watched Blue Crush for the first time and like many girls, at that age, I was obsessed with it. All I wanted to do was surf every single day. Unfortunately, I grew up near a beach with no waves. But at 19, I finally learnt how to surf in France. When I moved down under, I bought a car, a surfboard and off I went. Of course, I totally fell in love with surfing and never looked back. Surfing is a passion, a way of life and inspires and teaches me new things every day. That’s another dream I keep on living every day.  

Now being creative on a daily basis had always been a dream. As a child, nothing made me happier than being creative in any form: painting, drawing, photography, writing, singing, music…

Quick note - Why Kalea Marine?

Kalea means “Joy” in the Hawaiian language. Not only being an absolute stunner of an island, but Hawaii is also one of the first places where surfing started and still is an incredible place to visit and surf. It’s no secret that one of my biggest joys is to be in the surf or by the beach so it was only natural for me to add Kalea as part of my business name. Marine is obviously my first name that I wear so proudly as it connects me to the ocean, my happy place, and where I get a lot of inspiration.
